ACT! Installation

The installation of ACT! Can be demanding.

ACT! requires specific installation procedures to function correctly.
The flexibility of ACT! means that it can be used as follows:

  1. As a standalone database on a single computer
  2. In a basic network without a server where the data is shared by a number of users
  3. A more advanced network where the data file is on a server and the users access the files over the local network.
  4. Where some users work away from the office and need to synchronise either when in the office or over the internet.
  5. As a Remote System where users log in using Terminal Services. In this case the data files are on a server and all users login using Remote Desktop Connections. This is a sophisticated setup that offers many advantages for the larger user group.
  6. As a pure web based solution; the database is accessed using a browser on the user computer and the database is located on a web enabled server.

Act Specialists, as the name implies, specialises in the installation of this program and advice to clients on the best alternative infrastructure to use. This is only done after a full review of the clients needs and available hardware and software.

Part of the installation process is to configure the program preferences to match your operation and how you want to use the program. This includes setting up your email to work with ACT!, setting up your users with the appropriate access rights and ensuring that all users can access the database as required.

All versions of ACT! require one license of ACT! per user.

Actual scalability and number of networked users supported will vary, based on hardware and size and usage of your database. Sage Software scalability recommendations are based on in-house performance tests using the recommended server system requirements.
